Select Philips Hue bulbs can now run Zigbee and Matter over Thread on the same radio, via concurrent multiprotocol (CMP) silicon from Silicon Labs. Signify and Silicon Labs announced MG26- and SiMG301-backed bulbs that keep Matter for everyday control in Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Samsung SmartThings while Zigbee still carries Hue’s dynamic scenes, entertainment sync, and deeper ecosystem features. One gap to read twice: those products currently force a Zigbee-or-Thread choice at commissioning; the software update for true concurrent operation is promised later this year, not on day one.

For a Hue house already on a Bridge or Bridge Pro, that bridge path already brings Matter to connected lights and accessories after the automatic software update—no bulb swap required. Direct Matter-over-Thread on the bulb is a different path: Matter-logo hardware plus a Thread border router such as Apple HomePod Mini, Amazon Echo (4th gen), Google Nest Hub, or Nanoleaf. Bluetooth-only Hue products stay out of Matter. The Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box and the dial on the Tap dial switch also lack Matter support.

Get it if the house wants Matter pairing without abandoning Hue’s Zigbee features and can wait for concurrent firmware—or already relies on Bridge Matter. Skip if the setup is Bluetooth-only, or if the room depends on Sync Box or Tap dial Matter paths that do not exist. Install means confirming Matter-logo bulbs for direct Thread, keeping a Thread border router in the mix, and treating “concurrent” as a later software drop rather than a shipping-day guarantee.
